Power Over Plastic
There are so many more items packaged in plastic now! Sometimes it seems like we’re drowning in plastic bags. Yet we do have choices. The more plastic we can live without is a message to the manufacturers to slow it down. Lighten your plastic load and inspire others to do the same. We’ll all be the better for it.
1. Reduce & Refuse: Cook more; refuse single-use whenever possible; stop using bottled water; refuse plastic and choose alternatives like glass; buy in bulk and bring your reusable containers.
2. Rethink: Ask, “Do I really need this? Is there a better alternative?"; buy used and earth-friendly products; choose eco-friendly packaging; buy natural-fiber clothing and personal items; let manufacturers know when they’re on the right track or not; tell local and state leaders your concerns; learn what a wide range of items contain plastic (some tea bags, wet wipes, fabrics, chewing gum, personal care products, and many more).
3. Recycle & Reuse: Understand local recycling guidelines and follow them and encourage others to do the same; wash and reuse plastic food bags; purchase items in glass containers you can use for storage; put reusable shopping bags in your car and purse--and use them!
